In 2009 he started working at iMinds Living Labs (then known as iMinds - iLab.o) as a researcher for the digiMeter studies, and as principal researcher for the Flemish ICT Living Labs Mediatuin and LeYLab.
Based on the lessons learned of these ICT living labs, and together with his iMinds colleagues, Dimitri developed a specific living lab offering targeted at start-ups and SMEs, in which he has managed over 50 innovation projects.
His main interests and research topics are situated in the domains of Open Innovation, User Innovation and innovation management. In these areas, he has published regularly in renowned journals such as Telematics & Informatics, Technology Innovation Management Review, Communications & Strategies, International Journal of Services Sciences,...
Dimitri is also co-leader of the Special Interest Group (SIG) on Living Labs and member of the scientific panel of the International Society of Product & Innovation Management (ISPIM), and is involved in academic development of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL).
At the beginning of 2015, he finished his PhD entitled “Bridging the gap between Open and User Innovation? Exploring the value of Living Labs as a means to structure user contribution and manage distributed innovation”, based upon his work as a living lab researcher. Besides expanding and enhancing the local iMinds Living Lab offering for SMEs and other organizations, he is currently also busy setting up collaborations with other living labs to facilitate supra-national innovation projects and to further promote the living lab way of innovation.
