International Conference "On the fringes: the politics and policies of refugee reception in Europe"
Europe has been a much-preferred destiny for those fleeing from sceneries of extreme oppression and devastation. In face of the most recent refugee influx, European policies have been marked by a certain grade of indefiniteness and pronounced ideological and political dissent. These, combined, have hindered the construction of a cosmopolitan post-national European project. Taking as background this structural frame that regulates the way the EU responds to the refugee influx, the conference discusses the procedures, the devices and the practices of different institutional actors in the process of reception and integration of refugees. In particular, the conference will focus on the EU's Relocation Programme devised in 2015. As such, the conference aims at exploring the processes involved in the design of the policies at the higher levels of the EU political decision and its transposition to the national and local levels. To debate this transversal theme, the conference will bring together an international panel of individuals whose academic, scientific and political activity has been devoted to the topic of refugee reception and integration. Hence, the presentations vary from political decision, policy framing, institutional intervention and grass-roots activism.
