FCT Postdoctoral Fellowships

2015-08-17

CETRAD welcomes Portuguese and foreign researchers applying to the 2015 Post-doctoral fellowships programme of the Foundation for Science & Technology (FCT)

From 16 July to 15 September 2015 The FCT Research Fellow programme aims to increase the flow of outstanding national and international researchers into Portugal’s R&D centres. Open to researchers of all nationalities, this programme targets those with exceptional track-records and a demonstrated potential to design, undertake and lead innovative research. Applicants are required to indicate the Portuguese research institution with which they wish to be associated.

CETRAD is an accredited research institution, recently evaluated by the FCT as “Very Good”. In July 2015, it had 55 researchers with PhDs and over 50 doctoral students, as well as numerous collaborating researchers based in other R&D units in Portugal and abroad. CETRAD’s research focuses on local, regional and rural development and is anchored predominantly but not exclusively in the social sciences. The core values underpinning its approach consist of inter- and multi-disciplinarity, stakeholder participation and beneficiary empowerment. The Centre’s strategy for 2015-2020 recognizes that the territorial exclusion suffered by rural and semi-rural areas can only be mitigated by building greater economic dynamism, improved social and cultural cohesion, and a more equitable incorporation of society and economy within national and international space.

CETRAD’s research aims are pursued by three Research Groups: Tourism, Identities & Cultural Heritage (in which sociology, anthropology, history, archaeology, and tourism and heritage studies are the predominant disciplines); Innovation, Markets & Organizations (where management and economics play the key roles); and Society, Territory, Resources & Policy (whose approach involves rural sociologists, agronomists, social workers, agrarian economists and management scientists), and research projects are conducted under the auspices of six flexible Thematic Research Lines.

CETRAD would welcome the opportunity to host your postdoctoral research in any of the following areas:

1) Sustainability in agro-food & forest value chains;
2) Tourism development and heritage conservation;
3) Entrepreneurship, knowledge, and competitiveness;
4) The impact of economic cycles on socio-territorial cohesion;
5) Valuation and valorisation of market & non market goods and services; and
6) Social exclusion/inclusion & social policy.
