The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho has been developing its own programs and projects in different areas of intervention and others whose technical and financial management has passed from municipalities associations to CIM, following the publication of Law 45/2008, of 27 of August, that establishes the legal regime of the municipal associativism.

In terms of attributions, the CIM is responsible for pursuing the following public purposes:

(I) promoting the planning and management of the economic, social and environmental development strategy in its territory;

Ii) Articulation of municipal investments of intermunicipal interest;

Iii) Participation in the management of programs to support regional development, namely within the scope of the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN);

Iv) Planning of the activities of public entities, of supra-municipal character;

V) Ensure the articulation of the actions between the municipalities and the services of the central administration, in the following areas:

   A) Public supply networks, basic sanitation infrastructures, waste water treatment and urban waste;

   B) Network of health equipment;

   C) Educational and vocational training network;

   D) Spatial planning, nature conservation and natural resources;

   E) Security and civil protection;

   F) Mobility and transport;

   G) Public equipment networks;

   H) Promotion of economic, social and cultural development;

   I) Network of cultural, sports and leisure facilities;

Vi) Exercise the attributions transferred by the central administration and the joint exercise of the powers delegated by the municipalities that comprise it.
