The Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), or Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, is an agency of the Spanish State dedicated to the promotion of scientific and technological research. It is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third in Europe. Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, its fundamental objective is to develop and promote research for the benefit of scientific and technological progress, for which it is open to collaboration with Spanish and foreign entities. The CSIC has a multidisciplinary character and carries out advanced research in all fields of science thanks to its more than one hundred centers distributed throughout Spain, similar to the French CNRS.
